With a new season comes a new hair care regime, and with all the changes winter brings a new system is definitely needed. The onset of freezing temperatures makes hair fragile and dry, and that combined with tangle causing winds can leave you with a never ending bad hair day. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to help tame unruly winter hair. Here are some of my tips and tricks to get you through this winter season!
First, try to shampoo your hair less frequently and make sure that you condition every single time. Also, try to leave in some of the conditioner. You should rinse your scalp area pretty thoroughly; however it is okay to leave 15%-25% of the product in the ends of your hair. If you are someone who like to rinse out ALL of your conditioner, try a leave in conditioner instead. One of my favorites is It's a 10 Leave In Plus Keratin [buy it here].
Next, try your best to limit the use of hot tools during the winter. Of course you don’t need to eliminate them completely, but when you do use them make sure to use a heat protection to prevent further damage. I would recommend AG Cosmetics Firewall Argan Flat Iron Spray as it protects your hair, as well as smooths flyaways and unruly hair. Also, if you need to use a blow dryer you should definitely use a diffuser and focus mainly on your roots. The ends of your hair are more susceptible to breakage during this time of year, so try your best to keep extreme heat away from them.
Don't forget to visit your hairdresser once every 8 weeks for a trim. Not only will it make your hair appear healthier, but it will also promote overall hair growth.
Seriously, condition your hair. Use a more intensive daily condition, such as Wella Enrich Moisturizing Conditioner for Coarse [buy it here] or Fine hair [buy it here], depending on your hair type. You can even do to a deep conditioning treatment once every two weeks or so to ensure moisture stays locked into your hair. Kenra Platinum Recovery Mask is an excellent choice for a deep conditioner as it provides hair with proteins and vitamins while smoothing and detangling.
Lastly, avoid over brushing your hair. If you must brush your hair, try using a wet brush [buy them here] or a wide tooth comb. Both put less stress on your strands than traditional brushes.

With a new season comes a new hair care routine, and winter is no exception. Freezing temperatures, dry air, indoor heating, and harsh winds can leave hair feeling dry, brittle, tangled, and harder to manage. Luckily, a few simple changes to your routine—and the right products—can help keep your hair hydrated, smooth, and healthy-looking all winter long. Here are some tips and tricks to help your hair survive the colder months!
First, try to shampoo your hair less frequently during the winter and make sure you condition every time you wash. Washing too often can leave already-dry winter hair feeling even more dehydrated. Adding a leave-in product to your routine is also a great way to give your hair extra moisture and protection between washes.
Redken One United All-In-One Treatment is a great winter essential for giving hair that extra care. This multi-benefit leave-in helps condition, detangle, smooth frizz, improve manageability, and provide heat protection. Simply apply it to damp hair after washing to help keep your strands soft, smooth, and easier to manage throughout the dry winter months.
And seriously—don't skip the deep conditioning treatments! Winter is the perfect time to add a hydrating treatment or mask to your routine. Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask is a great choice for dry hair that needs an extra boost of moisture. This rich conditioning treatment helps hydrate and soften dry hair while improving its texture, elasticity, and manageability. It's an easy way to give thirsty winter hair some much-needed TLC.
For color-treated hair, Pureology Hydrate Superfood Treatment Mask is another great option. This deeply nourishing mask helps hydrate dry, color-treated hair while leaving it feeling softer, smoother, and more manageable. Adding a moisturizing mask to your routine can help combat the dryness caused by cold temperatures and indoor heating while keeping your hair looking healthy and vibrant.
Lastly, avoid over-brushing your hair. Dry winter strands can be more vulnerable to breakage, so be gentle when detangling. Try using a Wet Brush or wide-tooth comb and work through knots gradually, starting at the ends and moving toward the roots. Avoid aggressively pulling or tugging through tangles.
Winter weather may be tough on your hair, but your routine doesn’t have to be complicated. With these products you can give dry winter hair the hydration, conditioning, and protection it needs. Be gentle with your strands, cut back on excessive heat, keep up with regular trims, and give your hair a little extra moisture to keep it looking soft, smooth, and healthy all season long.
