Winter Hair Care

Winter Hair

With a new season comes a new hair care regime, and with all the changes winter brings a new system is definitely needed. The onset of freezing temperatures makes hair fragile and dry, and that combined with tangle causing winds can leave you with a never ending bad hair day. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to help tame unruly winter hair. Here are some of my tips and tricks to get you through this winter season!

First, try to shampoo your hair less frequently and make sure that you condition every single time. Also, try to leave in some of the conditioner. You should rinse your scalp area pretty thoroughly; however it is okay to leave 15%-25% of the product in the ends of your hair. If you are someone who like to rinse out ALL of your conditioner, try a leave in conditioner instead. One of my favorites is It's a 10 Leave In Plus Keratin [buy it here].

Next, try your best to limit the use of hot tools during the winter. Of course you don’t need to eliminate them completely, but when you do use them make sure to use a heat protection to prevent further damage. I would recommend AG Cosmetics Firewall Argan Flat Iron Spray [buy it here] as it protects your hair, as well as smooths flyaways and unruly hair. Also, if you need to use a blow dryer you should definitely use a diffuser and focus mainly on your roots. The ends of your hair are more susceptible to breakage during this time of year, so try your best to keep extreme heat away from them.

Don't forget to visit your hairdresser once every 8 weeks for a trim. Not only will it make your hair appear healthier, but it will also promote overall hair growth.

Seriously, condition your hair. Use a more intensive daily condition, such as Wella Enrich Moisturizing Conditioner for Coarse [buy it here] or Fine hair [buy it here], depending on your hair type. You can even do to a deep conditioning treatment once every two weeks or so to ensure moisture stays locked into your hair. Kenra Platinum Recovery Mask is an excellent choice for a deep conditioner as it provides hair with proteins and vitamins while smoothing and detangling.

Lastly, avoid over brushing your hair. If you must brush your hair, try using a wet brush [buy them here] or a wide tooth comb. Both put less stress on your strands than traditional brushes.
